Vehicles in German City Found Smeared with Swastikas in Blood, Law Enforcement Confirm

Authorities reported they were notified by a resident who found a vehicle in Hanau marked with reddish liquid

Approximately fifty vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.

Vehicles, building surfaces and postboxes were defaced, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they announced in a official communication.

Police say they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a man noticed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a reddish substance.

The fluid had been drawn in the shape of a banned symbol, they reported.

Law enforcement then discovered many other smeared cars and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.

Swastikas are illegal in Germany under regulations outlawing the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.

Police report initial examinations suggest the fluid was likely human blood.

"Currently there is no lead as to its source; officials are not yet aware of any injuries in connection with the occurrence," they added.

City officials stated they were trying "to unravel the incident" and have requested to the community for information.

An important political figure stated the incident made him without words and required to be addressed rapidly.

"This act hits the center of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the extremist attack in 2020," he stated on social media, mentioning the murder of nine people by a gunman aiming at people of immigrant origin in five years prior.
